The Guernsey Rose Veal calves have had their first taste of grass this weekend, the latest batch of Rose Veal calves were taken out into the field on Friday.

Fern & Crystal

Crystal has now had her baby’s she had 12 early this morning.

She is a very good Mother and hopefully all the little ones will be ok.

Fern and her little ones now 3 weeks old have today been move to their outside paddock.

As you can see it is very tiring work playing in the sunshine, but it gives mum time to have a good feed on fresh grass.

See how we have grown.
Ferns baby’s are now 3 weeks old and full of fun, poor Fern can’t even get any sleep without everyone climbing all over her, the joys of piggy motherhood.

On Friday night Fern had 11 piglets, she had 8 males and 3 females, here they are all sleeping happily

Meet Fern our first breeding sow, she is now 4 and a half years old and just a few days away from farrowing.

We have brought Fern into the barn today, to have her piglets in the warm and dry, not only because it is very wet out in her paddock, but also so I can keep my eye on her when the time comes, I like to be with the pigs when they give birth, just incase they have any problems, Berkshires are very good mothers and very rarely have problems giving birth. Fern normally has about 8 piglets in each litter, so we will keep our fingers crossed for a good litter this time.

New arrival

The latest new arrival at the farm is Lilly.

She is a Anglo-Nubian goat and the smallest of triplets born at 1am on Sunday morning, she is living in the house at the moment as she was very small and weak and would not of survived if left with Mum and her two brothers in the barn, she is about half the size of the boys.

Hopefully she will rejoin them soon, she is now much stronger and drinking well, and is now going for longer between feeds, she loves to curl up on my knee and sleep just like a cat.

Berkshire Pigs

These are some of our outdoor reared free range Berkshire Pigs in the early morning mist.

Berkshire Pigs are a rare breed pig, and were once kept by the Royal Family at Windsor Castle, they are a wonderful tasting pork, with marbled flesh for a moist succulent flavour and just the best crackling.

Apollo is our working boar and the daddy to all the pigs we breed here at Pitmans Farm
